What is Light Housekeeping?

Light housekeeping is just one of the quality of life supports Comfort Keepers provide. The duties that fall within this category are those necessary to maintain a safe, healthy environment in your home. You are encouraged to describe to your preferences and priorities for cleaning, especially if your caregiver is limited in their time in your home.

Examples of Light Housekeeping

Light Housekeeping may include any of the following:

  • Laundry (machine washing, drying, folding, putting back into drawers, hanging up, ironing upon request)

  • Changing bed linens

  • Washing Dishes - If your caregiver makes a meal for you, prep dishes will be cleaned and put away. Other dishes used by the client will also be cleaned and put away

  • Wipe down of kitchen counters and other kitchen surfaces

  • Removing expired food from the refrigerator

  • Wiping down bathroom countertops, mirrors, sinks and shower/tub after bathing

  • Maintenance-level cleaning of toilet. If a toileting accident occurs, cleaning immediate area as needed

  • Dusting of surfaces and knickknacks

  • Watering plants

  • Gathering trash from within the home and taking trash to the collection spot

  • Floor care: Mopping floors, vacuuming and sweeping of general living space and walkways

  • Organizing drawers and closets

  • Tidying the general living space

  • And, your caregiver will clean up after themselves while in your home

Light housekeeping is restricted to the client and the client’s living space, and is not intended to address the needs of other household members or guests.

 

Comfort Keepers is not a professional cleaning service and our caregivers do not have special training in house cleaning. Our insurances and Workers’ Compensation also do not factor in the repetitive movement and other risk factors inherent in cleaning tasks beyond light housekeeping.

Our caregivers do not bring housekeeping supplies or products with them. Your caregiver can take you grocery shopping so you can get your preferred cleaning supplies.

Tasks which are not part of our light housekeeping services include:

  • Washing windows

  • Moving heavy furniture

  • Deep cleaning or shampooing carpets or scrubbing floors

  • Scrubbing of shower/ tub

  • Scrubbing/polishing grout

  • Dusting baseboards by hand or cleaning floors on hands and knees

  • Deep cleaning dried excrement from toilets or other surfaces

  • Home maintenance

  • Any activity involving power tools or hand tools

  • Changing lightbulbs

If the only service you need is housekeeping, you would likely be better served by hiring a professional house cleaning company. Please call the office for referrals to a professional housekeeping company.

 

What if my home needs more deep cleaning or special cleaning which isn’t part of Comfort Keepers’ services?

If your home requires cleaning outside of what we offer, we can refer you to a professional housekeeping service for those needs. Many of our clients receive routine cleaning services from professional cleaning companies. Our caregivers can help you maintain your home’s cleanliness between their visits. Please call the office for referrals to a professional housekeeping company.

What about Light Yard Work?

Comfort Keepers does not offer yard work as a care service. If you have light yard work requests, please call the Comfort Keepers for assistance with a referral to a professional landscaping/yard work company. Services we need to refer to other providers include mowing, raking/blowing leaves, operating heavy equipment, shoveling & salting sidewalks, or pulling weeds.
